Kenya wants to be the first African nation to host the Olympic Games! Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has said the capital city of Nairobi is preparing a bid to stage Africa’s first Olympic Games in 2024.
Odinga, a retired footballer and sports lover, said he believed Kenya had what it took to host the event in 2024 and has therefore announced that the Republic of Kenya will be starting the process of pitching to host the Games of the 33rd Olympiad.
Cairo, Egypt had years ago, bidded for 2008 Olympics Games but lost to Beijing, China while the Cape Town, South Africa made a bid for the 2004 Games which they also lost to Athens in Greece.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is set to commence the official bid process for the 2024 Games in 2015, with a host city selected two years later.
Does Kenya, who won 11 medals in the just concluded London Olympics, have what it takes to host the world? Is 12 years preparation enough to match what we experienced at the London Olympics?
