The recently held Spark presentation brought us our most elaborate presentation so far. Clem Ogus, an internet entrepreneur and founder, View Nigeria, emerged the winner of the November rookie contest. On the 18th of February, Clem who is based in Warri, Delta state, came down to Lagos to receive “The Spark”- an incentive to help him achieve his dreams- from The Spark Sage, Chief Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu, CEO CHISCO Group. He was empowered with a cash grant of NGN200,000.
Due to other engagements, Chief Chidi couldn’t grace the occasion with his presence. However, he was fully represented by the top management of CHISCO (see image above). Clem was humbly received by CHISCO at the Group Headquarters, Iponri Costain, Lagos. While we, the Vanguard Spark team expected the event to be a brief one, we were in for a surprise.
Clem briefly introduced himself to the CHISCO team as a long time blogger, a promoter who helps Nigerian celebrities publicize their videos and founder of an internet newspaper, View Nigeria. He has been involved in blogging since his early secondary school days and at 20 years (his present age), he has come to be respected in the industry after being involved for over 7 years. He clearly belongs to the class of the Jide Ogunsanya’s and the Pat Ogidi’s of the Nigerian internet marketing space.
The Special Adviser to the Chairman, Sir Moses Chukwuka took us back to the roots- how CHISCO started. He stressed on the importance of hard work and dedication, as these were Chief Chidi’s traits when he first started his Spare parts business over 39 years ago.
That Spare part business has now evolved into what we see today- CHISCO Group. To show the youth that genuine success can be achieved without engaging in vices, Chief Anyaegbu wrote the book, “YOU TOO CAN DO IT”. Not only that, but being a man of vision, he wanted to create a new breed of people who would be trained professionals in the Transport industry. For this reason, he built a NGN78 million naira Transport Studies facility at the Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka.
As explained by Mr Alphonsus Iyohbhebe, the Head of Marketing, part of CHISCO’s purpose is to empower the youth. Therefore, supporting Clem Ogus in his endeavours was natural for the company. He further urged the rookie to do the same for others.
Obinna Anyaegbu, the Group Business Development Manager, explained that the support from CHISCO is a way of urging Clem to work harder and also for others to be inspired by his effort and story. He further stated that whatever innovation comes from the youth via Vanguard Spark that’s aligned with CHISCO’s mission will be supported.
As a way of giving back to his benefactors, Clem did the unusual. He offered to advertise the CHISCO brand via a banner ad on his online newspaper, viewngr.com for FREE over a period of six months. This is the first time a rookie would make such a move and it shows that we still have Nigerian youth with a heart to be different.
