Nollywood, and Nigeria as a whole still mourns the painful passing of veteran Nollywood actress, Bukky Ajayi. Where circumstances as to her demise where vague heretofore, new information has come to light from the family.
In an Interview with Vanguard, her last child, Kunle Fawole, popularly known as Abounce, revealed some details about her last moments and health struggles.
In his words “I and mama were in the living room with some of my friends when I noticed that her heart wasn’t moving, I mean like she stopped breathing. Immediately, I checked her pulse and called my elder brothers. We felt her pulse and heartbeat did everything possible. But alas, she has passed on. And that was at about 11:23 am on Wednesday. She was a bit ill before this happened. She had been ill for a number of years now. She had stroke some couple of years back. There was a time she also had cerebral malaria. She became diabetic, hypertensive and also suffered breast cancer before now.”
Until her death, she had won many awards including the Industry Merit Award at the African Magic Viewer Choice Awards (AMVCA), where she was received with a standing ovation. She started her career in Nigeria as a newscaster on National Television Authority (NTA). ‘Mama Bukky Ajayi,’ as she was popularly called, appeared in Village Headmaster, a television series in the 70s. One of her popular movies is Thunderbolt.
She will be missed.
