The executive arm of government will need increased powers in a bid to boost the Nigerian economy.
This is according to a statement by the Vice President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media & Publicity, Laolu Akande, Daily Trust reports.
“The Economic Management Team has indeed been considering several policy options and measures to urgently reform and revitalize the economy. Some of these measures may well require legislative amendments and presidential orders that will enable the Executive arm of government move quickly in implementing the economic reform plans” he says.
Laolu adds that the Economic Management team has not sent the proposal to the President.
What triggered this revelation was a report published earlier alleging that the Presidency is seeking emergency powers from the National Assembly in a bid to improve the economy. Adding that this decision by the Presidency was as a result of a proposal laid out by the Yemi Osinbajo led economic team.
