The Federal Government says US congressman, Tom Marino’s letter to US Secretary of State is a propaganda of his own imagination.
Marino in his letter to the US Secretary of State accused President Buhari as having autocratic tendencies and being selective in his war against corruption. He called on the US to withhold security assistance from Nigeria “until President Buhari demonstrates a commitment to inclusive government and the most basic tenets of democracy”.
Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed in his response says the US congressman isn’t well informed on Nigeria’s domestic issues. Saying the congressman should have sought information from the US Embassy in Nigeria.
“Insecurity anywhere is insecurity everywhere. Had Congressman Marino understood this, he would not have made the kind of call he made concerning the US security assistance to Nigeria,” Lai Says.
He says that the Buhari administration respects the rule of law and adheres to the role of law. Adding that “had Congressman Marino done his home work before dispatching his letter, he would have realized that no part of the country is left out in the distribution of political appointments”.
And on his claim that the anti-graft war is selective, the Minister says the statement is an invention to distract the administration’s fight against corruption.
