Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah says allegations that he colluded with MTN in transferring $13.92illion from Nigeria is baseless.
A statement from his office points out that the Minister served as the Director on African Capital Alliance, an equity company that invested in MTN Nigeria through Celtelecom, but he wasn’t the owner of Celtelecom as alleged. Neither was he responsible for the remittance of proceeds from the company.
“Therefore, at no time was Dr. Enelamah in a position to transfer funds out of Nigeria on behalf of MTN Nigeria, and at no time did Dr. Enelamah transfer any funds out of Nigeria on behalf of MTN Nigeria,” it reads. “Dr. Enelamah welcomes any investigations the Senate may decide to carry out on the activities of these companies, it should be noted that all the allegations as made by the Senator are without merit and baseless”
Senator Dino Melaye earlier alleged that the Minister collaborated with the Telcom provider in transferring said fund between 2006 and 2016. And the Senate asked him to present evidence to this effect at its next sitting.
